HOKKAIKAN OHANABO

Out of its owner's desire to cherish the warmth of Kyoto, OHANABO was re-created in February, 2000. Based on the theme, "an inn to ease the heart", a wooden space that keeps alive the traditional beauty of Kyoto was reborn as this beautifully realized inn. photo

The design of each room reflects elaborate care, with devotion to the individual character of the wood in every room. Everywhere in the building seasonal flowers are arranged in a casual manner, gently embracing visitors. photo

Wa-shoku (Japanese style) cuisine is a most enjoyable feature of Japanese traditional inns. In OHANABO the menu choices vary according to the rates. If you select the 5000 yen course, the choices for the dinner served in your room are shojin-ryori, kaiseki, sukiyaki , shabu-shabu , and nabe , and it is fun to be able to select one of these types of cuisine. You eat breakfast in a large hall, whose ceiling is called Ajiro-tenjo. This ceiling is so valuable that no craftsman of today has the skill to build it. photo

Of course, clean and comfortable bathing can be delightful, and relieve the traveller's weariness. Yet beyond this, it is delightful to view an inner garden from the bathtub. Individual shower rooms are provided for international guests, and are available around the clock. Also, this inn has the happy reputation of offering to female guests their choice of their Japanese kimono (yukata)'s color as an amenity photo
